Frequently asked questions

Where are the workshops held?

Sew, Make It  sewing workshops currently holds workshops in three locations around Worcestershire;  Stoulton Village Hall, Birlingham Village Hall Pershore and Uckington Village Hall Cheltenham.

What times are they held?

Workshops are either 3 hours  or full day duration, or as stated in the workshop description.

How many students per workshop?

Workshop sizes vary depending on bookings, a minimum of 4 people is needed for each workshop to run, and a max of 9 is allowed.
The small size of the classes allows lots of individual support from the tutor.

What do I need to bring?

For a lot of workshops fabric will be supplied.  Each workshop detail will state how much and what type of fabric you need to bring if it is not supplied.

Bring your sewing kit if you have one, if you don't there will be plenty for you to use - and there is always habberdashery and fabric to purchase at very reasonable prices!

Sewing Machine

You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine, as long as it is in good working order, and not more than 20yrs old.  Please remember to bring your instructions and accessories too!

If you don't have a machine, its a good idea to use one of our machines first - please don't rush out and buy a new one, you will have more of an idea what you want if you have tried one first.

Please let me know when booking if you require the use of a machine, there is a small charge of £5 per workshop, to cover servicing costs.

Mini sewing machines and kids machines are not suitable for any workshops

Are any of the workshops suitable for complete beginners?

Yes, the workshops are aimed at complete beginners. There are 5 complete beginners workshops, starting with  "Get to know your sewing machine" these workshops focus on key skills to be be learnt with the aim of incorporating those skills into a project to make and take home at the end of the class, giving you the confidence to continue to other workshops or have a go at home.

Are there any workshops for those who can already sew?

Yes, there are workshops for beginners who would like to continue sewing.  We now run a monthly sewing workshop in which we all make the same project, instructions and tuition are provided, you will need to bring your own fabrics etc ( a list will be given on booking). These workshops are more informal, relaxed and sociable. Anyone can join, prebooking is essential. A block of 4 workshops is £60, so great value. Details on the 'Sew Monthly' page in "workshops"

Do you do 1:1 Lessons?

Yes I do offer 1:1 private  lessons where you can indulge yourself in a particular skill you would like to learn or a specific project you would like to make. These are normally held on weekdays and cost £30 per hour.

How do I book?

With each workshop listing there is a "book now" button, where  you will be transferred to a booking page.  Alternatively you can contact me direct and I will  send you payment details  via Paypal or BACS transfer.

What if I have booked a space but can't attend?

I understand that sometimes things change, so if you can no longer attend a workshop I will always try and offer you an alternative date. A refund can only be given if at least 2 weeks notice is received or if the workshop space can be filled,  (you can send a friend in your place)

What if the workshop is cancelled by Sew, Make It?

A workshop will only be cancelled by Sew, Make It in unforseen circumstances, or due to insufficient numbers. In which case as much notice as possible will be given and a full refund will be issued. Please note this rarely happens
